Krum is the one true god. Ask Conan. He knows.

This is why when we confront a scripture passage that is difficult we must examine what the inspired author originally said in Hebrew or Greek.

I'm quite OK with the notion that we must do our best to figure out what the original authors intended to say, and I'm equally OK with not assuming that the KJV translators were infallible. I'm not so OK with the assumption that the original authors were divinely inspired.

All organized cultures have beliefs in some form of mystical being. Some of the more developed have discovered that some quite profitable books, films and TV shows can be made about them.

Scripture is not meant to encyclopedic; it is a spiritual work .What does not contradict can often be found in the study of other disciplines.

Agreed! Joan of Arc probably has the all-time prize in that category? She is rumored to be doing just fine now.

Thank you for the wise and kind words, but the "insult" doesn't hurt or harm me at all. I'm more worried about how many people go through life with these tiny metal balls for hearts, while professing their orthodoxy.

I am told, far too often, that I am a heretic, even that I am not a Catholic.

That's just terrible. But I'd like you to know, many a great saint suffered at the hands of their fellow catholics. (Little Flower, pray for us.) We must keep praying for all those who ignorantly cause us harm.

That's a nice gesture to accommodate my indiosyncrasies, but no need for that.

I'm really not offended by anything you say, and in fact I badly want you to continue challenging what you refer to as SNC Catholicism(*). If I had my druthers however, you would make those challenges in a way that doesn't (perhaps unintentionally) frame the debate as a matter of choosing either "Strange Notions Catholicism" or non-Catholicism. I would want to be clear to the young David Nickols who are still out there today that there are many ways to be a Catholic Christian, notwithstanding that Strange Notions Catholics are probably doing a better job of controlling the narrative these days. I expect you want this as well, but in my view some of your anti-SNC comments promote such dichotomous thinking (a dichotomy that many SNC Catholics are only too happy to affirm).

(*) I think it is extremely important that the lived Catholic experiences, and frustrations, of people like yourself do not get lost in the fervor for the "New Evangelization". Your story is part of our history (and part of our present, as well, -- not meaning to write you a eulogy here :-) ), and we are not doing ourselves any favors if we engage in some form of ahistorical panglossian cheerleading. You will chuckle at this, but in all seriousness, I would have you as a catechist for my own children, if I could!
