Haha, never heard this before. And now I'll never get it out of my head, either, every time someone lambastes some poor, benighted Gnu.

Many decades ago, I was given this on vinyl. I am reminded of it every time the "gnu atheists" are mentioned.

I don't like the people laughing. But it's nature. Gnus are vulnerable.

Welcome to my world bro. I've been getting that for weeks from the Gnus.

David,
>What makes you believe a discussion of how various biblical authors in the OT conceived of God could not take place entirely within an "orthodox" Catholic framework?
For the record I am not against that but I was arguing against individuals who where not doing that but where literally trying to make me a Protestant Fundamentalist before they could convince me to be an Atheist rather then just deal with me as a Catholic on my own ground.
That is the context of "fists of stones against the mountain range of Catholic faith
You are not in that company of individuals but yer sane unlike the "angry Atheist" crowd which you ignore and mercifully they ignore you.
Cheers guy,

The aim of my post was to counter the idea that the Magisterium had few guidelines for Biblical scholarship. If you are driven crazy by my words, please feel free to disregard them. Surely that would be better than putting yourself in a loony bin.

You are defending something I am not attacking. You are beginning to drive me crazy. Every time you respond to one of my comments, you somehow interpret me to have been attacking Catholicism. I link to an example by Pope Benedict engaging in biblical scholarship, and you interpret that as an attack on magisterial teaching. I recommend a Catholic priest's introduction to the New Testament and somehow that is some kind of attack.

It is admirable to defend the Catholic faith, but not when you imply someone else is on the attack when he or she is not. I am not the enemy here.

The investigative techniques and epistemic norms of ancient skepticism are worth thinking about: "a kind of philosophy that emphasizes the struggle against one's own ignorance, as opposed to the attempt to formulate and defend one's own theory." ~ Vogt

I'm not formulating and defending a theory about skepticism here, so please, no declarations that it's self-refuting to dogmatize skepticism! I'm simply thinking of when, and about what questions, epistemic self-restraint is salutary.

The Catholic faith derives from and encompasses more than pinpointing the exact time of the Last Supper. Scholars and Popes certainly may and surely do examine many such concerns. To limit the entirety of God's word, to deny its validity because of one 'apparent' contradictory concern dishonors Magisterial teaching on Biblical exegesis and scholarship.
